WILA Presents: An Evening with Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was born in Mogadishu, Somalia. At twenty-two she fled a forced marriage and was granted asylum in the Netherlands — the country that would later elect her to its Parliament. She has spent her life defending the freedoms most of us were born into: freedom of conscience, freedom of speech, and the right of every woman to choose her own future.
She is the bestselling author of Infidel, Heretic, and Prey, the founder of the AHA Foundation, a fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution, and the host of The Ayaan Hirsi Ali Podcast. In 2023, after years as one of the world’s best-known atheists, she announced that she had become a Christian, and has spoken openly since about the debt the free world owes to its Judeo-Christian foundations.

For the last few years, I’ve felt a heavy weight—like the values I grew up with were fading away. I was angry at the news and worried for my grandchildren. I almost didn’t come to the event because I thought it wouldn’t make a difference.
